Q: I know EAT-SMART contains protein, but how much protein should I consume each day?A: To accurately answer this question, you should first determine your daily activity level (for instance, are you sedentary or very active?), as well as your desired training goals (such as trying to lose bodyfat or gain muscle), and last, you need to assess your overall stress levels. These factors will help determine, as closely as possible, your daily protein requirements. See, it's a scientific fact that for a sound, intelligent nutritional plan, especially for someone who trains with weights or undergoes intense, stressful physical activity, you should always consider consuming more protein than regular, sedentary folks. It's pretty simple to figure out how much protein you require on a daily basis. Here's a quick reference guide in three steps: 1) Record your bodyweight in pounds. 2) Now divide your bodyweight by 2.2. 3) Next, multiply that number by (a) 1.6 if you exercise less than three times a week, or (b) 1.8 if you exercise more than three times a week. This final number is essentially how many grams of protein you should be consuming on a daily basis. Then, if you want to divide that number by sixthe number of meals you should consume each day to reach your goalsyou'll know precisely how many grams of protein you should consume at each meal. Remember, don't obsess over a gram or two, here and there... you can always round up or down: just focus on achieving a close approximation of your daily protein requirements, based on the calculation I've provided above. This way, you'll be sure to reach your goals. However, your needs may be further increased if you...
Q: Can EAT-SMART help me lose bodyfat and gain muscle?A: For years, bodybuilders have known the importance of both increased protein and the convenience associated with meal replacements. Hence, the extreme popularity of both types of supplements for those seeking muscular growth. In fact, their findings have been substantiated by hundreds of scientific studies, which cite the importance of increased protein intake as an essential factor for building lean body mass (i.e., muscle). Noted nutritional scientist Peter Lemon, Ph.D., has even suggested that to build muscle mass, those who are actively strength training should consume around .8 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.
