Passion and Empowerment!Jenny Hendershott Shares How Her New Book Passionately Empowers Women Around the World to Achieve Their Fitness Goals and Live with Greater ConfidenceInterviewed by Sue Mosebar Foreword by Stephen Adele Few women receive the accolades Jenny Hendershott has. Even fewer women enjoy life to the level that Jenny does. True, Jenny has championed two of the most prominent competitions in women's professional fitness. She's successfully built one of the most finely sculpted physiques on the planet. And she holds a list of titles that probably makes other girls seethe with envy. Still, that's not what makes Jenny stand apart from other women who represent the sport of fitness. It isn't her physique, her titles, nor her work ethic that makes Jenny unique. It's what she possesses on the inside. Her gracious heart. Her infectious enthusiasm. And, her unwavering passion to help other women find their path to building a better body and improving their self-image. Jenny has since turned her passion into a business. It's called Phat Camps. She relentlessly tours, virtually every weekend, to another city of packed, sold-out crowds, where she teaches women of all ages, shapes, sizes, and walks of life how to eat, exercise, and stay mentally "fit." Jenny shows them how simple it is to put together a plan to reach their goals and not only build a better body but take better care of themselves and enrich their lives as they become better wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends. It's been said that to find success you have to walk in the footsteps of those who have been successful. Well, I couldn't think of anyone better to follow than Jenny Hendershott. That is, if you want to learn how to develop a stronger, firmer, healthier body and live a more energetic life. That's why I, along with the editors at Real SOLUTIONS, are so proud to be publishing Jenny's new book, The Curvelle Lifestyle, which will be available in the next week. In the meantime, we thought it would be inspiring to sit down with Jenny one on one and talk about who she is, how she got here, and how she plans to help even more women build "Slimmer Thighs, Tighter Buttocks, and Sexier Curves." Real SOLUTIONS: What inspired you originally to get involved in fitness? Jenny Hendershott: I had been an athlete and had been active since I was youngI started dancing when I was just two years old. When I graduated from college, I felt like I had a ton of talent leftalong with a ton of energy. I felt very ambitious about my abilities. I had also started coaching cheerleading. I loved that, but it was very demanding and not very financially rewarding. I knew I wasn't ready to settle down yet. I wanted to do and be more physically. I think that's what inspired me to look for something else. And that's what got me into fitness. RS: Was there anybody in particular when you first got into fitness who inspired you to become competitive? JH: That would be my good friend and my coach now, Mike Davies. We both worked for the same cheerleading organization. He got into personal training and suggested I get into fitness competitions. He's always believed in me and always inspired me to take this direction. RS: Who inspires you today to keep going? JH: I motivate myself. I'm so passionate about what I do now. It's beyond a job. It's beyond a responsibility. It's beyond an obligation. I'm not doing this because someone is making me. I'm doing it because I enjoy it. I'm doing it because helping other people is very rewarding for me. I get a lot out of it. It's something I've dedicated my life to. I'm very grateful and thankful that I've been led this direction to make something of my college education and be able to teach and reach out to women around the world and help inspire them and educate them through my Phat Camps. RS: How has the sport of fitness affected other aspects of your life? JH: I've grown up a lot. I've learned a lot about business. I've learned a lot about politics. I've learned how winning isn't everything. And there's so much more to life than being number one. And I think that's one of the most important things I've learned in competing. I've also felt many growing pains and faced a lot of reality checks. Like everyone, I've experienced a lot of ups and downs. But this has taught me how to become a mature professional businesswoman I can honestly say I am now. And I'm very proud of that. RS: What do you consider to be your greatest competitive achievement? JH: I can answer that in two ways. One would have to be winning the Arnold Classic. That was always a dream of mine. I just wanted to win the Arnold Classic one time. For my hometown and my fans and friends. "Personally, I think the greatest achievement I made is I've stayed true to myself. I haven't let the industry change me."
But personally, I think the greatest achievement I made is I've stayed true to myself. I haven't let the industry change me. I haven't let people's opinions change who I am. That's my greatest achievement. I'm still the same Jenny I was when I started the sport nine years ago. I'm still very fun, crazy, loud, honest. I look better, and I've matured with age. Physically and mentally. But I haven't gone out and subjected myself to the plastic surgeries and all the different things that people think they need to do in this sport. For me, I just don't think it's worth all that. I think being who you are and, more importantly, liking who you are and having respect for yourself is what is most important and what I'm most proud. RS: What are your current fitness goals? JH: My current goals are to be the best I can be, keep going out there, build my fan base, keep my fans happy, keep inspiring people through Phat Camps, and keep meeting people. That's what I love to do. I love people. I love to talk with people. I love to hear their stories. I love to hear what they need help with. RS: Let's talk a bit more about your Phat Camps. Can you tell me a little bit more about those? JH: Phat Camp is for women between the ages of 18 and 60. You do not need to be a competitor. You need to be a woman who is looking to become a better human being inside and out. I spend hours talking with women about self-esteem, motivating them, educating them on nutrition, exercise, and mindset. I give them tons of new ideas on how to train, how to focus their lives, and perhaps most importantly, how to time manage their lives. At Phat Camp, we talk about everything. Most of the Campers are housewives and businesswomen. The average, everyday woman who's looking for how to get going, at whatever age she is, and needs that kick in the butt. Because that's what Phat Camp isit's a kick in the butt. It's a motivation. It's an energy starter. We're not here to be drama queens. I am not a woman of drama. I'm a woman of hard work and education, and that's what we're there to do. Work hard and learn. And when I say that, I can just see shoulders immediately relax because it's really cool to be where women can go away from their families for a weekend and have a great time with other women who have the same interests. And that's looking good and living a healthy lifestyle. RS: Why did you start the Phat Camps in the first place? JH: I did cheerleading camps for six summers. I was the head instructor. That's how I put myself through college. Every summer I managed 300 to 500 children between the ages of 7 and 18, and then I'd have 10 to 15 staff members and 20 to 30 coaches. I was in charge. And at 21 years old, that's a big responsibility, but I knew I was a good speaker, a great leader, a motivator, and I've got a lot of energy, so I took all those skills and integrated them into a fitness camp, called it Phat Camp, and made it happen. RS: After women attend your Phat Camp, if they go away with just one thing, what do you want that one thing to be? JH: I want that one thing to be that I touched their lives in one way or another. Whether I give them a kick in the butt, and now they're motivated to do this, or I've touched people's life spiritually. At Phat Camp, I share my stories of struggle with depression, and so many women can relate to that. So many people out there are also going through depression or who have been there themselves or with loved ones. I've been there, and I tell them that. And maybe I'll touch their lives that way. Or maybe I've motivated them to get out of a relationship they were involved with that hasn't been good for years and that's been holding them back. Now, all the sudden, they've packed up and moved out. When I leave camp, I get emails and emails from women who tell me what I have done for them. And that is the most important thing for me. Because that means I'm doing my job. RS: How did your new relationship with iSatori and Real SOLUTIONS come about? And why did you want to work with them? JH: Stephen Adele and I started communicating via email while I was running some Phat Camps in Australia. When I got back to the States, we talked on the phone one day for an hour and a half, and I said, "Listen, there are a lot of things about the industry and the sport of fitness that I just don't like. I don't want to stand around at tradeshows every weekend, handing out freebies. I'm looking to have someone to come on board who believes in me and in what I doand that's inspire women. I do two shows a year, the Arnold and the Olympia, and every other weekend between, I'm out working. I'm working my butt off because that's what I believe in." I think when I said that to Stephen, he thought, "I like this girl!" We continued to talk, and he too has those same feelings about life and the industry. We connected right away. I think our business persona is the same. I think we believe in the same things. We are good people who are trying to do the right thing for the industry and in the world for people, and together, we can do the damage. We can definitely make some good things happen. RS: Tell us a little about your upcoming book, The Curvelle Lifestyle. JH: I wrote the book to do more than just inspire women to become their best selves. The Curvelle Lifestyle also provides lots of practical tips for motivation, lifestyle, diet, and exercise. My Phat Camp clients who use these same tips lose bodyfat, gain muscle tone, and achieve slimmer thighs, tighter buttocks, and sexier curves. But more important, when they leave Phat Camp and use what they've learned, they feel better, enjoy greater self-confidence, have more energy, and are more excited about life. I don't claim to know everything there is to know about diet, exercise, and living a healthy lifestyle. But I have learned from many mistakes, and I know what works for me and have many clients who have succeeded with my methods. I believe I can help you avoid making many of the same mistakes I made, and I believe that the things that have worked for me will work for you, too. But don't take my word for it. Get a copy of the book, and try them and see for yourself! RS: Why did you choose to call it The Curvelle Lifestyle. JH: Curvelle is a new supplement designed especially for women that provides a unique combination of natural ingredients for healthy weight loss and enhanced radiance. It's made by my good friends at iSatori Technologies, and it's one of the secrets to my personal success. But more than that, Curvelle stands for the same things I stand for. Its purpose is to help women become the best they can be. It's natural. And it helps you look better on the outside by making you healthier on the inside. Yes, I do take this product, and I love it! RS: Changing the subject a bit... would you describe your current training routine? JH: Right now, I'm really dedicated since I'm getting ready for a show. So I'm training with weights five days a week. Plus, I'm doing two hours of cardio every day, seven days a week for nine weeks working up to the Fitness Olympia. I'm doing two to three days of gymnastics training, working on the fitness routine in a separate gymnastics' facility. Other than that, my life consists of 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night. I'm eating nine meals a day. It's very, very structured. I don't think people understand all the details and all the time it takes. Plus, you always have your upkeepyour hair, your nails, your tan. Everything always has to be on. RS: So how does that differ from when you're not getting ready for a contest? JH: In the off-season, I try to get to the gym three to five times a week and train. I try to get at least a half hour to an hour of cardio in every day. When I'm traveling, just trying to get enough sleep is difficult. Trying to eat healthy on the road is obviously difficult. It's just totally different because my priorities are different. I'm out there teaching. My focus is on making sure I'm out there, available, running my camps right. I'm focused on other people and not so much myself. But when I get ready for a show, I basically have to become very selfish. I have to refocus my attention strictly on myself. Make sure I'm doing all of those things I know I need to get done and just do my best. RS: Could you then describe your nutritional habits? How do you eat? JH: [laughs] That makes me laugh because, believe it or not, my nutritional habits are much better than they used to be. I used to be a very poor eater in the off-season. I was one of those people who would go to such an extreme when it comes to eating when I was getting ready for a show. So when I came off of a diet, I'd eat everything in sight. Ice cream. Cookies. Cakes. Pizza. I'd just go ballistic. But I've learned, over the last ten years of my career, that you cannot do that. I've really gained a lot of structure. Now, when I'm traveling, I always make sure I have protein shakes and bars in my purse or in a cooler. I make sure when I go to an airport that there are things to purchaseyogurt and apples and bananas and salads. Not the pizzas and the sodas! Those are some of the choices I would have made seven years ago. But now, I just try to eat healthy. I'm not as structured as when I'm eating nine meals a day getting ready for a show. But I know how to eat to stay on track. This is what I try to teach too. I just try to teach people what I've learned and how to be a smarter eater. Make smarter decisions. Don't fall to the pressure that, "Oh, that smells so good." Or, "Oh, that looks so good." You really have to be on top of your game every day. You have to say, "I'm not going to eat that. I'm going to make this decision. I'm going to have yogurt and almonds. Or I'm going to have a protein shake and an apple." That's hard for people to do. And it's one of the things I had to learn myself. RS: Do you have any tricks or suggestions to help people make those smarter choices? JH: I just tell people that you have to prepare. You always have bars in your purse or your bag, or you have protein shakes in your car that you can make any time with a bottle of water. You always have fruit handy. If you always have these things with you, and you never leave home without three or four structured meals or snacks, then you're less apt to stop at a drive through, and you're less apt to not eat at all. You are more likely going to say, "Hey, I've already gone to the trouble of making this, and I've already paid good money for this. It would be a waste to pick up something else. It's just one of those things that you have to get used to doing in your lifestyle. RS: What are you thoughts on supplementation? Do you think they work? And what do think works for women? JH: I definitely believe in supplements. I start out by always recommending a good protein shake. Eat-Smart is a great one. It tastes excellent!
And as I mentioned before, Curvelle is a weight-loss supplement designed specifically for women. It's a small, easy-to-swallow capsule containing natural ingredients that naturally boost your metabolism and help you burn excess calories for energy. Curvelle also helps support optimal health of the female body with a powerful blend of antioxidants for radiant skin, hair, and beauty.
I've been using Lean System 7 as I train for the Olympia, and this the first time I've used the product, and I love it. I also recommend a multivitamin and glutamine.
Also important is to remember that you first have to have a really healthy, well-balanced diet.
RS: Are there any last words you'd like to leave us with?
JH: There are so many things I could say because I love to talk. I just definitely want to express my gratitude to everyoneStephen and everyone at iSatori for giving me this opportunity to be part of Real SOLUTIONS.
To the readers, I would like to say, I'd love to answer any of their questions, and I'd love to help them in any way, and I hope to see them at a future Phat Camp. I want to add that I'm going to do some co-ed camps this year, including the second annual Real SOLUTIONS Boot Camp. Guys, you'll enjoy a nice, good butt kickin' too!
I'm looking forward to helping everybody I can possibly help. It's very rewarding for me. And I'm very passionate about it. And I just want people to see that true side of me and just understand that that's who I am.
RS: How can people get a hold of you?
