Greetings, Friend, Just by looking around the gym this morning as I worked out, I could tell what time of year it is. The crowds have died down, and it's back to the usual faces. Of course, there are a few exceptions, but for the most part, the New Year's resolutionists have started to dwindle. Every year, I wonder why some people are able to keep coming throughout the year and others seemingly give up just four, five, or six weeks (or less) into the New Year. And I've come to some conclusions… In my opinion, too many of us have an "all-or-nothing" attitude when it comes to working out and building a better body. So many of us beat ourselves up for one crappy meal or one missed workout. We think, "Oh, I screwed up again. I'll never get it rightI might as well just quit." In reality, it's just as easy to climb back on that wagon as it is to fall of. Make no mistake, we all goof up. I do. My wife does. Our editors here do. "Slip ups" just happen. They are a part of the learning and growing process. Sure, you may feel a little sore or embarrassed at first, but once you're back on, it's easy riding. Well, not easy, but you get my point... In fact, the more times you start over and get back on track, the easier it is to stay on track. Here's an interesting fact: the more times someone tries to quit smoking, the more likely they are to actually quit for good. That's because with each time they "start to quit," they learn what works. How to better succeed in the future. And equally as important, they also learn what "didn't work." The key is to just keep trying. Persistence and tenacity are two keys to any real lasting success. The second conclusion I've made is, how often do we decide to put off starting something challenging until the New Year, a new month, or even this upcoming Monday? I mean... Why start something while you're "in the middle" of everything else? By in my opinion, that's just craziness. If it's time for a change, there's no better time than RIGHT NOW to get started. Whether it's the first Monday of the year or the middle of the afternoon on a Wednesday in any random month. There's no time like the present to start building a healthier, stronger, more energetic you. Wouldn't you agree? Maybe this is all old information to you. You've been hitting the gym year after year, despite the same ebbs and flows of New Year's resolutionists you witness every year. If so, good for you. Keep at it! But if you're one of the newbieswhether you've found yourself struggling to stay on track or are enjoying your new rhythm, I hope this issue gives you a little extra inspiration along with a bit of know-how. And remember, consistency wins over time. Think about that for a moment. Go back and say that again to yourself: "Consistency wins over time." It's true. And if you let the power of your newfound, positive habits work for you, over time, you will absolutely positively see results you (and others) are certain to be proud of. Until next time...
